The Hype Awards

So I broke my awards virginity at the Hype Awards this Friday. Brand new sneakers, shades and short skirts seemed to be the theme for this yellow carpet night in honour of them rappers. A media frenzy evening with about 4 TV crews covering the glitz and glam. I most definitely did not spot much bling except the Queen Of Bling herself Khanyi Mbau. It wasn’t long before she jacked the Ses’khona tv crew mic while they were interviewing Mr Selwyn. Attention she seeks, attention she gets. Besides the much talked about split, producer and musician Lungelo came with his baby mama and ex-wife to be, Kailash. Those two still looked happy even as they left. Maybe I should sniff closer to this one.
Whoever organised this ceremony should never and I mean NEVER organise any event, not even a school play nogal. Two hours late? Have you ever?

Two hours later the ceremony started and to top it off the show did not flow. We were subjected to the annoying announcer’s voice, sitting in silence with technical glitches. What could one expect with a show that starts with this announcement : “Prokid, please report backstage, Prokid”. Shame, Pro did give a sterling performance though, alongside the group AKA and Khuli Chana of Morafe fame. Nice one gents...

MC ‘ing the event was Comedian Loyiso Gola and who made the awards worth coming to as he had us in stitches including the go he had on Khanyi and her champagne fountain v..... (I shall leave it at that).

I spotted a rather thin looking Morafe member (if they still exist) Towdee Mac, shame , go thatha (it must be hard). What is he doing with his talent these days? Amagents ayaphanda... AKA wasn’t surprised that they won the best new comer award and best lyricist N’Veigh , proved why he deserved the award with his performance. Other performers were JR and Shuggasmax.

Teargas and DJ Tira: *side eye* “hoo”, “hey” are Brickz' lines, what is he to sing if you adopt them? Stand out performances: Proverb and Tumi from Tumi and the Volume, I bow down. Innovative performance and I hear that Tumi came up with the concept.

The Jozi duo gave a great performance, I still say it’s not the same without Bongz who also performed with Maggz just to show they are not in hiding from the cops.

Dineo Ranaka wore a tight pink dress and I don’t mean tight as in hot, I’m suprised she could walk in that (10 points for composure girl, now about that blonde hair..). I still love her, she presented the Best Beat Boxer Award which went to Gorgeous George with Sizwe. After his go at the organisers and the poor usher, I can see why people would think he is arrogant...Sizwe is now also a DJ.

While on scratching and scratchers Switch won the best DJ Award:

DJ supreme Ready D received a Grand Master Award in honour to his contribution to SA’s hip hop industry. His recorded acceptance speech was long and boring. Other winners included JED for best B boy, Freeze Frame for best dance crew much to the disappointment of talented Twitch. Khuli Chana proved he’s turned a new leaf and this was backed up when he walked away with the Best Song award. Falko won the Best Graffiti award, DJ Lemonka won the Best Mix tape while Best Producer went to Octave Couplet, don’t ask me who it is I don’t know either but am sure he must be good.
Some celebs in attendance:

Anele Mdoda and Trevor Noah

Koyo and Amstel

Khanyi

Anyway, besides nearly tripping, thanks to the uneven yellow carpet (which better be nicely laid out for the SAMAs or else), it was a fun night with a few bruised egos, stunners, Mmabatho Montsho’s nice lil black number and Psyfo’s pink shirt with.......you guessed it, new sneakers. They better not mess up next year, ok wishful thinking. Aubrey????? I’m not gonna say more. Tha Hustler's done!

Dear "Tha Hustler"

Your comment about "a rather thin looking Morafe member (if they still exist) Towdee Mac, shame , go thatha (it must be hard). What is he doing with his talent these days? Amagents ayaphanda..." is really rather OFFENSIVE AND DISRESPECTFUL!!! I really detest people who sell their lame opinions to the public as though it was the truth, that is shameful. You are even contradicting yourself asking if Morafe still exists yet you refer to Khuli Chana as "Khuli Chana of Morafe". The reason why there is a "Khuli Chana" is because of Morafe. If you bothered to read the album sleeve, you would know that Towdee Mac produced a number of the tracks on Khuli's album. What he is doing with his talent is teaching music technology and sound engineering, running a successful studio, doing creative consultancy for major corporations and the list goes on. He is a producer, do your homework and check your facts. Just because a man goes to gym to look good for his wife, suddenly he is "rather thin looking". All you I can say to you is "ag shame, you'll find your own one day"!

The Hype Awards seemed hyped up for me. Well i'm a Mampe and if you know best you may have figured that I am related to Da L.E.S. We are renowned for our zest in wanting to persevere in all we embark in. I'll be off to the U.S because my friends mom is receiving an honorary degree next week. I'm a huge hip hop phonatic and those who know me well refer to me as a nerd who's not only into books but into hip hop as well. Ask me about any event that's swaggfilled and I'll keep the info flowing in. After all, if you got the stacks- why not join? THE MORE THE MERRIER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol, much love yall
