Jozi Movie Premiere

Producer extraordinaire Anant Singh under his company Videovision Entertainment has teamed up with Tom Pictures to bring us what promises to be another successful homemade comedy. The movie which consists of the crop of local talent is based around a comedy writer who has lost his sense of humour. Carl Beukes plays a lead role in this movie starring as “James”. He is the skinny guy who used to be on Isidingo as Paul and I must say he impressed me a few years ago when I watched him on the theatre play, Popcorn and in this movie, his great acting talent is really exposed. Think, SA's Ashton Kutcher. The former barmen who came with his beautiful girl friend Shannon Glover to the premiere is en route to become a legend if he keeps this up.

He is supported by another great talent Lionel Newtown who has won several awards for his roles in theatre plays. I don’t want to give away too much about the movie as I’d really like you to go see for yourself. A word to Lionel on a personal note, please consider shaving, Peter from the story of Jesus look, doesn’t suit you.

Minister of the DTI (this acronym doesn’t stand for a car model, it’s the Department of Trade and Industry) who attended the event with his wife and gave a promising speech to my seldom unemployed actor friends. The Department has budgeted to fund projects like these in the near future and substantial amounts of money will be spent to improve and support the arts in our country. Judging by the opening speech, there are a few projects in the pipeline including a comedy film featuring Joey Rasdien, Riaad Moosa, Barry Hilton, Loyiso Gola and more around March this year.

I got the opportunity to see the majority of the cast at this premiere. Other actors in this film include the talented SAFTA 2010 nominee for best actor, Ronnie Nyakale, Moshidi Moshwegwa, Obed Baloyi, Tobie Cronje and hot redhead model Jena Dover.

Spotted Radio jock Pabi Moloi. Also there was music producer/ BM Records owner King “Beatmaker” Phatudi –Mphahlele who whispered to me that he got an invite from Anant Singh himself when they were together at the World Economic Forum in Davos two weeks back.

Singer KB looked ravishingly hot in red as usual and escaped right after the movie before we could take a picture.
I’m not much of a rock fan but Uju kept us entertained on the night and there was plenty of unopened bottles of wine when I left. The food was divine and I think I had one samoosa too many, as my tummy was a little unimpressed with me the day after. Nonetheless, the premier was a pleasant way to round up the weekend watching this achingly funny movie. A must see for a good laugh.
