Lira at the Bank

I wasn't too sad when I heard that I was missing out on the assignment of chilling with hot models at Latinova on Friday night all because I had an even better opportunity of hearing one of the biggest talents to emerge in South Africa over the last few years. Ladies and gentlemen, Lira IS talent. She performed at The Bank courtesy of Chivas Regal.

I went out to look for odd things in an unfamiliar place, much to my disappointment. I saw socialite and hair stylist Nthato Mashishi sporting a new look. I don’t blame him, I heard Jesse Jackson was in town recently probably to stock up on styling gel, the chiskop looks cool though. As always he had women all around him and Koyo offcourse.

Yfm’s Faith Mangope decided to come out of the woodworks with a ravishing black little number. She was seated in the over crowded VIP section next to the founder of the clothing label “Cool Kid”, Big Ant along with the Kwela Tebza boys and their ever present girlfriends.

Month end gigs are always good for the clubs, I was shocked to see the bar full even after Lira started performing. The tellers at The Bank had their hands full most of the night. I guess not all came for her music as most of the VIPs preferred to sit, tweet, and socialize while drinking champagne. Hip Hop group 985 members Drew and Junior where hanging around, I wonder what happened to third member, the one who is said to always be drunk, in fact I wonder not.

The talent rocked the stage as expected and had the crowd singing along, even better, she did a splendid version of the late Brenda Fassie’s hit “Weekend Special” amongst others. Another Yfm family member was Mpho Maboi who was set to be the MC for the night, apparently she didn’t even know about it. Luckily she was dressed the part. I had a brief chat with Jimmy Tau, who told me he struggled to find his way to the club… Ironically, he's been spotted at Capital before, all he had to do was look further down the road and let his curiosity lead him to the crowds that are usually gathered at The Bank. Was it age or exhaustion I saw in his face? It was an awesome night less my slight disappointment at hot looking Lerato Moloi not posing for a picture for us. (It is a free country) I tried very hard to avoid liquor, just not hard enough. Hi, I'm Tha Hustler and I'm not an alchoholic, yet.
