With a love for speed and a need for an adrenalin rush, the Chevrolet track day in Kyalami was just what I needed. The thought of riding in a fast car, 3.35 seconds from 0 to 100km/h just shifted my focus away from fashion week and the World Cup. Although I never got a chance to ride in that 7 litre Corvette, I sure did have the pleasure of driving on the race course and drove a few of the cars in the Chevrolet range. The first car I jumped into was the Cruze 1.8 litre petrol and boy did I cruse. I loved the way the car picked up speed and it had a greater balance on the curves than I expected. Although on the track normally one only drives on 3rd and 4th gear, I took this baby to the 5th gear at times and when I hit the brakes, it responded to my command better than a farm worker to his baas.
My second car wasn’t a great pick, I would have loved to take the SS to the track but it was too popular on the day with every guy queuing for it. Mind you on arrival I had the pleasure of being taken for a spin in the Auto Trader branded machine. It took me a minute for my head to recover from the handling of that vehicle, pure bliss. I settled for a Chev Corsa bakkie on the second round to the track and 1.7 litre turbo diesel is not built for racing, it gladly serves its purpose. Too bad I didn’t have any load to off load. With my chance on the SS not coming, I tried the diesel version of the Cruze, same car, same handling but I prefer less noise when I drive. I can’t get over the tractor sound from any diesel car although the fact that diesel burns slower than petrol makes one think about cutting costs on petrol and settling for diesel.
Chevrolet aimed to impress and they did...They had a range of the CSV’s which will be soon available in SA as part of their family. Forget the V8 engine or the 325kw on the car, the sporty look gave me and Speedy a never ending grin. A chevy driver himself, he told me he hopes to negotiate for one when they arrive. Stoan was just as excited over the babies, who wouldn’t?
let's see who was there:
Hey Speedy:

Besides the racecourse, there was also a 4 x 4 trail but because I like things, I went for a massage and missed the call to go ride in the Chevrolet Captiva. I regret that massage, I feel more tense than I was before I I got it. Don’t get me wrong, I loved being touched, it’s been a while and I wished that lady could take her hands lower but 3 minutes into it, I felt like I was being man-handled. As soon as I got my top back on we went on the track, this time to watch experts burn tyres on the track. I still prefer kasi guys doing it but I guess one has to consider safety issues. It was a lovely day with no fuss or bitching. As I said pure bliss... and drink were served, after the driving. * winks*
