YFM and Chevy Spark Diva's party

Y-fm and Chevrolet put together an awesome Diva’s party on Thursday evening at Movida in Sunninghill. The station’s drive time show host Dineo Ranaka was the MC for the night and she made sure the crowds eyes remained locked on her. She popped out from behind the curtains looking “dangerous” in black and pink lingerie doing a sultry routine before introducing the first diva to perform. Relo opened with Alicia Keys’ “Super Woman” before performing her own hit track “Gift of Life”.

Winnie Khumalo followed on stage giving a thrilling performance of her hit song “Live my life” ahead of singing an unconvincing version of feminist anthem “Sisters are doing it for themselves”. The last diva to take to the stage was Kelly Khumalo. I’m not sure what to make of her act, although I do remember a lot of whistling, dancing, “iyelele” and very little singing. I have to say though; the new mommy has done a good job getting back in shape.

I was a little disappointed when Relo, Winnie and Kelly came back on stage to sing “Moulin Rouge”, Relo sold her part well but the other ladies didn’t seem to know the words to the song. I took offence to it considering that the ladies each performed their hit songs which they’ve done countless times, all they had to do to give a star-studded performance was to learn one verse from one song. I’ll give the divas an A for talent but a definite D minus for effort, nevertheless, the mood was not lost.

DJ Zinhle did her bit on the decks later to keep the party going while we enjoyed food, drinks and good music.

The cramped VIP area housed every kind of celebrity Jozi nightlife has to offer. Spotted Uyanda Mbuli in a pink silky dress that showed off an ass that should belong to a lass 10 years younger. Gert Johannes Coetzee came with his ever present fiancee, other designers in the house where Thula Sindi and Machere who came a bit later on in the evening with her hunky husband Pepsi Pokane. Also there were director, writer and actor Akin Omotoso who stood chatting to actress Bubu Mazibuko in a corner. I was glad to see Speedy sans his hand towel but it seems we might have to wait a little longer before we stare into his big brown eyes; Speedy and his boy Stoan refuse to lose the shades in the club. On and off couple Kailash and Lungile Lubelwana came to party together.




I also saw Somizi Mhlongo having a good time along with other socialites. Media hungry Theunis Crous also showed face with a lady friend that didn’t look like his wife Primrose. Rappers JR and Mr Selwyn were also in the building and after some time I figured that it would probably be easier if I tried to figure out who wasn’t there. Too hot a party for a Thursday night if you ask me. Most of us walked out of the club well into Friday morning and if I could, I would do it all over again.
