Ford Figo invited a few of the fun loving media to spend a day spinning their cars and hanging with the top 7 Idols contestants at the Gerotek testing facility just outside of Pretoria. A bit of an early morning for me but I had anticipated fun and laughter on the day and that made it easier top get up. Shuttled through to the site, we got fed the fancy stuff while waiting for the new stars of SA music industry to arrive. The point of the day was to enhance our driving skills whilst learning safety tips to avoid crashes. Driving Skills for Life is a Ford initiative to educate drivers and is part of a global phenomenon that began in 2000 in Germany. We soon left for the tracks to practise the safety tips that were briefly preached by the trainers.
Boki
I was teamed with the loud Boki, the bright blonde Adeleine and charmer Elvis Blue. The skidpan was fun with Boki screaming like a little girl throughout the whole process. If there is one thing I can say, ABS saves lives and it comes as standard feature in all the Ford Figo models including dual airbags and front electric windows. Enough with the free advertising for Ford. It was actually fun interacting with the songbirds. Sindi Nene who’s one of the favourites is a really down to earth chick with an open mind. Of all the contestants Adeleine is the safest and the best driver. Considering that none of the guys have been driving for the past 2 months, she had the little Figo on lock down.
Sindi and Adeleine
Boki and Lloyd are quite competitive even off the stage and this was proven when we had a little race against time. Boki came short though as the humble Lloyd with an Indian wife got a better time . I heard Boki mumbling something about size not mattering it’s how you use it to one of the journo chicks. He he he!
Lloyd and Pieter
Call me a stereotyper, but I’ve always considered accountants to be boring until I met Pieter. Considering that he comes from Bloem I thought he would have a very grey personality but this wasn’t the case. The lively chap is hoping for a top 4 finish and beyond and he’s considering a career in music thanks to the buzzing Joburg vibe. 30 year old Elvis Blue is an automatic panty dropper, he posseses a sense of coolness about him but hands off ladies, the Port Elizabeth music teacher is married and has a beautiful daughter.
Elvis and Jess
Jess is another bright babe, I was impressed with the fact she’s organised and business minded. I impressed her with my driving, 5 snaps for me, yay! Too bad she’s out of the running now, best of luck to her with her future endeavours. Overall I think this year’s Idols are a cool bunch, realistic yet they don’t fear the challenges ahead of them. Best of luck to them... It’s not often that I get to have a 7am call time and actually be enthusiastic about it but this was definitely worth it. @thahustlersa. Peace!
