After 3 years of being on the hip-hop scene and hanging out with the Buttabing boys, Kwesta has finally released his debut album. Titled “Special Rekwest”, it features 14 thumping tracks and I’m glad that the Katlehong born “m’rapper” has finally been given the platform to shine. The super talented lyricist won the hearts of many with his single “Sharp Fede” back in 2007 and regrettably, we never heard from him besides being featured on other artists tracks or mixtapes. The first track on the album “What I’m here for” best describes what the young man is all about, the music and expressing his talent not the money or the women even though we know that’s what comes with fame, not surprising that I’m yet to hear a scandal about him.His momentous day was this past Tuesday at the little known Melroom Cocktail Lounge in Melville. Although proceedings ran late, such was the anticipation for a taste of the young man’s talent that we forgot about the long wait. After MC of the night Chris Mapane drove me to focus on my drink and the technical glitches, the man of the moment arrived to sample a few songs from the album. His track “Stomp” got us on our feet, with a few people only getting up after a request from the mc.
Senzo Mfundo Vilakazi has landed on the big stage and he had the support from the likes of JR, Zulu Boy and Teargas member Ma-E who came through to the event. I didn’t stay on to mingle and as I had other events to attend, but with an open bar one could only expect tipsy socialites, industry peeps and writers. Special Rekwest is out in stores. The boy definitely has the flava...
