I rarely go to Zar for anything but for a good occasion and Wednesday night was no exception. Beat27 Media gathered Jozi’s party people under one roof to celebrate the birthdays of Lucia Mthiyane and Zama Ngcobo. The theme for the night was “Fabulosity in stilettos” which ties in with what every girl has in their closet, and seeing as outfits were not going to be an issue, we had one other responsibility – to have fun.It was a rather slow start to the evening; someone needs to kill this notion of being fashionably late, especially on a Wednesday night. Slowly but surely however, the camera crews started rolling in and before we knew it, the place was packed. The two birthday girls each had cakes laid out for them and buckets and buckets of chilled champagne awaited their arrival. In the meantime, guests exchanged air kisses and small talk. I spotted Generations actress Winnie “Khethiwe” Ntshaba who I suspect is responsible for her own wardrobe on and off set.

Speaking of fashion, stylists Dumi Gwebu and Nthato Mashishi were also there, in my opinion, these guys have the coolest jobs ever, what could be better than fashion and partying for a living? Kuli Roberts was at work and I thank my lucky stars I’m not a celebrity because the questions she throws at people in front of the camera are sometimes shocking to say the least.

She was later found crying in the restrooms, I guess it’s okay not be superwoman 24/7, especially when it has something to do with people not understanding the kind of person you are. I might not always get her, but I’m generally happy with the smile she constantly throws my way. It’s always a pleasure seeing Muvhango actor Phila Mazibuko, this young man oozes nothing but positive energy, I wish it was transmittable to some of Jozi’s so called celebrities. Babalwa Mneno showed up looking beautifully slim and I could tell by the skirt she was wearing that she was not there to dance. My eye also caught on the guy from Teargas sans his group members, poor man looked bored, and I was relieved to find that his face was less round than his brother’s.

They have it all wrong in this town, with their success comes body fat.
The guests of honour finally arrived both looking like a million bucks in sequinned dresses that showed of their hot bodies.

The speeches followed and that is where I usually switch off. I didn’t take the time to see who was on the decks but when the Durban music started blazing, I made the obvious guess that DJ Siyanda was setting the house on fire.

The range of guests went from actors, artists, models and socialites to politicians and the party was officially declared hot when I saw Julius Malema who doesn’t come out as often as he used to. I also saw Penny Lebyane and Sophie Ndaba there and while you might not care who is who, I think the amount and type of people that show up to support you always has something to do with you being a likeable person.Lucia had loads of fun partying and even traded her Elie Saab dress for a more comfortable outfit. It was a pleasant evening all round and either than the hangover that I was going to get the following day, I got some dancing tips from Busi Lurayi from City Ses’la. It is uncustomary to reveal a woman’s age so the only little secret I’ll let you in on is that there might be something going on between Zar owner Kenny “Majozi” Kunene and Zama Ngcobo that goes beyond him walking her out of the club. I’m ashamed to say that I left Zar after 3am and that was only because I had to be up early the next day. It was one hell of a party.

These Old people should be at Jazz Clubs not ZAR.
