Soweto Wine Festival

The Soweto Wine Festival has been a growing phenomenon over the last couple of years and this year Tha Hustler got an invite to not only the DSTV VIP Lounge at the festival but to the media launch held at The Cradle of Human Kind as well. While a day with fossils may sound very boring, I enjoyed going to the Sterkfontein Caves crawling, into holes that only our 1 meter long “so called ancestors” could fit in with ease.
We were finally shipped to Maropeng’s 4 star hotel for what we had come for, wine tasting. I have never been fed so much in my life, forget the full breakfast we had at Sterkfontein with the fresh fruits and all you can think of including baked beans.
These guys had prepared a 7 course meal to help us discover which wine goes which food. I felt sorry for the guys that finished their 1st meal and cleaned the plate while us darkies waited patiently for “inyama” (meat). If there is one taste a black man knows it’s chicken or beef and those that finished their meals early were nowhere to be seen by the time the real food came. I can safely say I wined and dined...

The DSTV VIP lounge was packed with unknowns but it was blissful nonetheless, given the fact that there were a few things ”gaaning aan” in Jozi it wasn’t surprising. There wasn’t much dining or blue cheese but the business of drinking went on. Former beauty queen Bridget Masinga hung out with socialite come stylist Nthato Mashishi minus his BFF Linda Moeketsi.

Bridget Masinga and Neo Merafi:

Nthatho Mashishi:

It was also good to see some of the Miss Soweto finalists hanging out with pageant organiser Thato “TT” Mbha with his business partner and BFF from City Sesla Mandla Ngcongwane. Someone did whisper to me that their sashes look like those of mall security personnel, what’s up with that?

There wasn’t much to see except happy faces and a few odd people putting away wine glasses in their hand bags. One thing for sure wine is certainly good for the heart judging from the amount of smiles I saw.
