Ugandan star Bebe Cool shot

Ugandan superstar artist Bebe Cool was recently shot a number of times in the thigh by police officers in the country's capital, Kampala. After wrapping up his supporting act at the R. Kelly concert, the artist apparently headed to another popular hangout spot to kick it and was accompanied by his bodyguards.
Concrete details of what actually occured are a little sparse, but there are two conflicting stories: the first is by the police, who say that they were trying to arrest an unidentified couple doing the dang thing in their car. Bebe Cool, whose government name is Moses Ssali, some how became involved in an ensuing scuffle and got himself shot by the cops several times. One of the "bodyguards" that was shot in the scuffle is actually a member of the police.
Bebe Cool's side of the story is that when they got to the spot to hang out, there was some kind of misunderstanding with Weasel and Radio-two artists that he doesn't quite get along with. The following paragraph from Uganda's New Vision Online tells the wounded artist's side;
“After leaving Effendy’s, we walked to Nakumatt (a supermarket) to buy some items. A policeman escorted us. He is the one who was shot along with me and my friends,”. The Inspector General of the Police later visited Kobobyo, one of the wounded bodyguards admitted in the same hospital, who told him policemen at Nakumatt asked them to identify themselves. “Bebe Cool identified himself and said almost all policemen knew him. However, one of them was not satisfied. Despite Bebe Cool’s pleas, he stepped backwards before the shooting.”
We'll have to wait to see the outcome, but right now, one of the policemen that shot him are in custody and Bebe Cool has reportedly said that he will be taking a legal route to get his own back.
Another Ugandan publication The Observer, quoted Bobi Wine, another Ugandan artist, on the incident:
“Police have turned into a shoot-to-kill force; that is why a senior citizen like Bebe can be shot by a Police officer trained to protect people and the entire Police fail to give an explanation to the country and the artistes’ fraternity. We are calling a press conference tomorrow (Wednesday) at the hospital to give our stand,” said Bobi Wine.
Bobi Wine and Bebe Cool have had quite a stormy relationship in the past, exchanging diss records and all that other stuff that goes with the concept of "beef".
Well, we wish the "senior citizen" a speedy recovery.

As a 340ml Stan it gives me great pleasure to announce that the band will be performing in Johannesburg this weekend!!!
Johannesburg's leading online nightlife and youth culture magazine, JHBLive, brings you the Third Hit Me with Music event, which will pay tribute to the icon that is Bob Marley and celebrate his birthday. 2008’s event was a huge success, and this year’s, taking place on Saturday February 6 from 9pm at Main Street Life, is set to be even bigger.
The massive party falls under the banner of JHBLive’s successful events brand, Live Inna City. The Live Inna City events have attracted over 8000 people over the last few years, with cutting-edge concepts and a diverse array of entertainment attracting an extremely multi-cultural, open minded crowd of young, Joburg-based trendsetters.
The Hit Me with Music event was launched in 2007. It’s a huge annual party that brings together top local bands, DJs and entertainers for the purpose of celebrating the legend of reggae superstar Bob Marley. The event was an overwhelming success in 2007 and 2008, with 2000 people per event attending.
This year, JHBLive will be Taking the event to the recently renovated Maboneng precinct which has seen the successful launch of the Arts on Main development - a unique blend of studio, commercial, residential and retail spaces. Arts on Main is a hub for Johannesburg’s creative community to develop and share ideas. To find out more about it go here.

340ml:
South Africa's favourite dub-rock warriors, 340ml use reggae as a base to explore any sounds and styles they feel like, creating a tasty and colourful musical cocktail without boundaries. Members of the band have been involved with many other projects, including rap group Tumi and the Volume, dub, reggae and raga DJing collective Dub Vaults and 340 Million Things to Say, which sees the band’s vocalist and guitarist composing experimental music for films. At Hit Me with Music, they will be performing selected Bob Marley tracks as well as new tracks from their highly anticipated new album Sorry for the Delay.
Thank you to mahala.co.za for the image.
DJ Bob:
DJ Bob bought his first record in 1984 and has not looked back.
Over the years he has promoted a certain mindset of music from the heady days of Rockey street, Mojo's, 206live, OppiKoppi, Mozambique and many more.Besides promoting and working with many live acts, it is his love of playing records to people that keeps him young at heart. Dj Bob is expected to drop a heady mix of funky, afro-latin-reggae vibes, beats and grooves with just the right amount of soul-shaking-down for Bob Marley.
Toby 2Shoes:
Born in Zimbabwe, Toby has been firing up dance floors all over the globe, known for he's Balkanology Party Sets, Toby has a wide variety of mixes from afro beat - to Balkan treats.
Bongeziwe Mabandla:
Bongeziwe Mabandla was born in a small town called Tsolo outside Umtata in the Eastern Cape in a single parent household. At an early age Bongeziwe showed a great love and passion for music. He attended the Lady Grey Arts Academy where he was exposed to different art forms and this is also the place where he learnt guitar. Bongeziwe then went to study drama and music at AFDA in 2004 this was the time that he started to develop his own style mainly in an unplugged manner; the song delivered mainly in Xhosa. Bongeziwe music has a very heavy folk sound and is very much influenced by the artists like Tracy Chapman, Simphiwe Dana, Jabu Khanyile, and Lauryn Hill. His music has a rhythmically grass-roots vibe while fusing elements from styles like Mbaqanga, soul, and hip-hop and Dub. Bongeziwe has been performing in open mics and poetry sessions around Joburg. Late 2008 he released independently an EP called "UMLILO"with Producer Paulo Chibanga from dub group 340ml and hip-hop group Tumi and the Volume currently developing some work for a full album that is due to be released later this year.
*sooo excited*
*side note* Can we take a moment and not ask the band to play "Midnight driving?" Y'all know they must be tired as hell of playing the song, Sorry for the Delay has some gems on it so let's just enjoy that see? Thanks!

JUCY J&B Met

In full colour, horse-racing fanatics, betters and socialites filled the Kenilworth race course for the annual J & B Met in the beautiful city of Cape Town. The energy in the air livened up as I made my way across the grass from the grand stands to the hospitality village where South Africa’s glamorous filled the many marquees. The wind was rather unkind and had the ladies pulling quick reflexes to keep dresses down and hats up, thanks to RJK creations (who also dressed Noleen Maholwana Sangqu, Farah Fortune and the phly one Penny Lebeyane) my body hugging dress saved me the trouble, which left me with the single task of keeping my hair in check.
There were very few celebs I didn’t spot, I felt like my childhood fantasy of climbing through the television had finally come true. Spotted DJ Sbu (who according to his tweet was wearing a Tom Ford suit and claimed not to bragging) posing for pics as I began my quest for the Equus Lounge marquee. The main J & B marquee was the place to be, unfortunately if you didn’t have the right accreditation, you simply would not enter as Ms Khanyi Mbau soon learned.
While Lucia Mthiyane and Lerato Moloisane entertained guests at the Carducci marquee, kleptomaniacs had a field day in the J & B marquee as Kuli Robert’s cellphone was stolen, shocking!(because I simply cannot imagine how the financially destitute could have made the guest list). Despite the misdemeanor, HHP rocked the marquee with a killer performance and Gareth Cliff, Ryan Botha, Lady (Nazreen), Princess Diana's niece Kitty Spencer and other fortunate guests where spoiled to delicious food, drinks, massages and L’Oreal make-up touch ups. A good source confirmed everyone’s drunken state, due to my absence, I cannot swear to it. While all this was happening, I was battling to keep myself from getting blown away while I waited for my tag.
Sizwe and PR Diva Farah Fortune with Anele
Took a glimpse of the Equus lounge which seems to have hosted the more mature crowd, you know, the likes of Sophie Ndaba and Zizi Kodwa who is going to have his hands full with the president making front page news for the not so right reasons – again! Uyanda Mbuli made an appearance in the tent.
Needless to say, my tag never made it around my wrist, I shall spare the name of the person who did me wrong (strike 1!) and before my patience ran out I’d seen everyone that was to be seen including a rather slim looking Zam Nkosi and his gorgeous fuller figured wife Khensani – I cant imagine the two are on the same diet – Im just saying… Comical David Kau paraded his gorgeous wife Thalia, while Lira tugged her stylist Nthato Mashishi around and so models, artists, actors, politicians, socialites, corporate types , posers and randoms alike all seemed to enjoy the Met ambience. In the fear of appearing as a gate crasher, I eventually decided to retreat between the white sheets of my hotel bed. Yes, my heart was broken as I imagine I missed out on a whole lot of juice. Note to self: Network with relevant, well-connected and most importantly, reliable people. And oh, when it's time to go home, go home :

JUCY weekend events review
Friday night marked the launch of the Jameson Golden Room at Inc the Club. I could have sworn the invite said by invitation only and as part of the Inc Exec’s I RSVP’d only to find my name was not on the guest list. Hustler that I am, I managed to get a stamp in to see what the fuss was all about.
The Gold Room was set up at the infamous MIP lounge which was decorated with the sponsor banners and models dressed in white with hands on their hips. Thanks to my stamp situation I could not get into the room and this also meant I get to miss out on the free drinks and food which were served to guests who looked like employees of the brand. I couldn’t spot anyone that I know but thanks to the layout of the Club, the restrooms helped me to see one famous face....Paul Viv. The once talk show host had a couple black ladies surrounding him. Celebrities do pee right? He he he!
I caught a glimpse of Selimathunzi presenter Kaos Matu, who came in and out of the Club as he and partner were also tag less. It didn’t take long for the Inc waiters and waitresses dressed in black and white to get busy and sugar daddy’s and girls with tight and short miniskirts flocked the club. That was my cue...
My next stop was Club Premium were Nigerian born DJ Waxxy hosted his birthday party. The place was packed with Africans and bottles were popping in all directions. I was glad to see a lot more familiar faces. GP’s gossip gangster Mika Stefano was hanging out with his friends wearing another Amakipkip T shirt, I hope they are paying or at least sponsoring him for promoting them. I quickly had to remember I’m not at Inc as I nearly mistook comedian Tshepo Mogale for a waiter. Also in the mix was Buffalo Soldier, Maggz and Bongani Fassie, who all gave a refreshing performance later in the night.
I partied till quite late thanks to the Dj’ing skillz of DJ Mavado of Angola and DJ Humility from Nigeria and I must say I had fun at the Channel O sponsored event and it had nothing to do with the fact that I had a tag this time around. As for the idiots who were fighting outside the club when I left...eh! I didn’t know that “the banging your head against a wall” intimidation tactic was still in use in this day and age.
Dubbed the SOS to Haiti, club Premium together with Vth Season (pronounced 5th) hosted a gig to raise funds for the disaster hit people of Haiti. I rocked up a bit late for this one but I was disappointed at the turn out of the Jozi party people whom must have been tired from watching the horses I gather while the elite Joburgers who were in Cape town dressed up and partied for the Met. I wonder how many remember the name of the horse that won.
None the less, the event organisers with the support of “Cheese Kids” founded by Shaka Sisulu managed to raise some funds and received clothes as well which will be send through via the Gift of the Givers Foundation. An unnamed Kaizer Chiefs defender (plays right back and his name doesn’t start with a J) made a big contribution towards the cause. Good thing he couldn’t donate his dance moves for that would have certainly NOT helped the people of Haiti. Other main donors included Dj’s Vigi-lante, Zintle, Soulsista, Franky ,Switch, MasterM, Paul, Naves and Vodoo, whom I had the opportunity to meet while there. Big ups to all who contributed and yes I had to pay at the door as part of my contribution.
